Enrolment policy - under the School Education Act 1999 children are entitled to be enrolled at a public school provided they meet general residential qualifications. Three objectives apply in determining eligibility for a particular school: maximising local access, offering a choice of schools, and ensuring an appropriate educational program. An underlying principle of the policy is that students cannot be enrolled in more than one school. To cater for students attending programs outside of the enrolling school, procedures have been developed for alternative attendance arrangements. A table has been included to assist principals’ awareness of the conditions applying to enrolment of visa holders. 23.04.09 - Version 1.1 published which contains amended forms in appendices F1 and G.
- Outdoor Education and Recreation Activities

Update: 1 June 2007: An amendment has been made to the abseiling section 2.4.1.3, that prohibits forms of descent in which the abseiler's brake hand does not constantly control the rate of descent. The policy contains 18 sections of specific procedural information and guidelines for a broad range of land based and aquatic activities undertaken on or off school sites. These procedures and guidelines are provided to assist teachers in meeting their duty of care responsibilities to students. It has been amended to include the Aquatic Rescue Qualification in the water-based sections of the policy.

The principal has primary responsibility for the day-to-day management and control of a school, including all persons on the school premises, and are to provide for the safety and welfare of students and staff on the school premises. 11.11.09 version 1.1 published with addition of procedural information regarding Working With Children Checks policy.

The Department recognises the scope and nature of the challenges faced by students at educational risk, their parents and teachers. The purpose of this policy is therefore to establish school practices, which support students at educational risk to develop the understandings, skills, and confidence to achieve their individual potential.
- Declaration of Local-Intake Areas for Schools

This document consists of two lists of public schools. One list identifies all schools that have local-intake areas and the other list identifies all schools without local-intake areas. In the last quarter of each year these lists are revised and published in the Government Gazette.
- First Aid for Sickness and Accidents in Schools

The first aid policy outlines the expected actions of school staff to ensure that first aid can be provided to any student, member of staff or visitor during any school activity. The requirement for first aid is stated in the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations (1996).
- School Development Days 2009

School Development Days are provided to all public schools for the purpose of whole of school planning and professional development of staff. They provide opportunities for school staff to plan together for school improvement and devote time to system-wide initiatives. The policy has been amended to reflect the arrangements and dates for 2009.
- Discipline

The Discipline policy applies to teaching staff, public servants and other officers. It does not apply to wages staff. The document may be reviewed in the light of changes to the management of complaints and conduct matters within the Department.
- Behaviour Management in Schools

The Department is committed to the creation of safe and supportive school environments through the effective management of student behaviour. This policy focuses on the mandatory procedures for schools to ensure that students develop positive pro-social behaviours and to deal effectively with inappropriate student behaviour. Update 19 August 2009: Changes to section 6.1.2 regarding mobile use in schools.
