- Healthy Food and Drink

The Healthy Food and Drink policy was developed as part of the Australian Better Health Initiative. The policy is based on the premise that healthy food and drink choices can be supported and promoted by school canteens. The policy applies to all food and drink provided to students in the school setting - i.e canteens and tuckshops, contracts with food providers/road houses, school rewards, camps and excursions.
- Hearing Tests

Update 19 March 2007: The list of providers has been updated. The Department has a responsibility to provide baseline hearing tests for staff who may be exposed to high levels of noise as part of their work. This policy outlines the staff identified who require a baseline hearing test and the relevant process. A list of WorkCover approved testers is also attached.
- HIV-AIDS and Hepatitis

The purpose of this document is to assist Departmental schools and workplaces to develop practices that prevent or minimise the spread of HIV and hepatitis. The policy is directed at employees rather than students but requires employees to inform students of specific matters relating to the prevention, transmission and reporting of hepatitis and HIV.

The School Education Act 1999 provides for parents to exercise educational choice, one means of which is registration as home educators who assume responsibility for their children's education during the compulsory years of schooling. June 06 update: the changes result from the increase in the school-leaving age to 16 years and the identified need for a more accountable process for the cancellation of a registration which now involves both the District Director and the Executive Director.
- Home Education Advisory Panel

Home Education Advisory Panels will be established on a case by case basis. People asked to sit on these panels will have been deemed by the Director General to have the attributes necessary to perform this important advisory role.
- Homework

Homework can support higher levels of student achievement by extending the time available for students to consolidate skills and concepts learned at school and for the exploration of new ideas and new situations. Homework can also extend the time available to the teacher for the monitoring of student progress.
- Hospitality and Working Meals

This policy provides procedures on the expenditure of hospitality, working meals, official events and social functions. In the incurring of the expenditure, employees of the Department of Education and Training are required to adhere to this policy.
- Housing for Country Employees

The Department is committed to attracting and retaining committed professional staff in country schools with the provision of quality housing, particularly in remote locations where local available accommodation is scarce. The procedures determine the provision and administration of housing for Department employees.
