The Department is responsible for monitoring annual and long service leave to reduce its leave liability and ensure leave credits do not accumulate beyond acceptable levels. Employees in Central and District Offices will take their annual and long service leave on a regular basis to prevent the accumulation of leave.

The Public Sector Management (Breaches of Public Sector Standards) Regulations 2005 (the Regulations) are effective from 1 September 2005.
