This policy addresses how schools, teaching staff and TAFEWA colleges and staff discharge their duty of care to students. ’Duty of Care’ is a legal concept that has its origins in common law. TAFEWA colleges and schools owe a duty of care to school-based students participating in VSS programs, that is, a duty to take reasonable care for their health and safety.

- WA Public School Student Enrolment Form

Following acceptance of the Application for Enrolment, the parents/persons responsible will be asked to complete enrolment procedures at the school and to provide information essential at the time of enrolment. Parents/persons responsible should complete the WA Student Enrolment Form and return it to the school for confirmation of this student’s enrolment. Family details should include details of parents or persons responsible residing at the same address as the student being enrolled. Any details relating to parents not residing with the student may be included in the parent/responsible person details section of this form. The WA Public School Enrolment Form is available as an appendix in the Enrolment Policy or can be downloaded as a separate form from this section.
- Priority Start - Building

Update 1 June 2007: Section 5.3.2 has been amended so that contractors can also meet compliance by employing apprentices/trainees that are not related to the project, provided they are employed in the building and construction industry by the contractor in any capacity. Section 8.2 has been amended to allow contractors to negotiate an alternative timeframe in submitting Training Plans where the four weeks is insufficient. Priority Start - Building is a State Government procurement and contracting policy to ensure Government achieves a significant contribution in the engagement of apprentices and trainees in the building and construction industry. The policy applies to all Western Australian State Government building and construction, including civil and engineering projects with a labour component in excess of $300 000. The policy commenced on 1 January 2007.

The Department recognises the value of quality research and the contribution that it makes to the education and training sector. Research undertaken within the Department needs to adhere to national ethics standards and Department policy and procedures, to ensure that the safety and well-being of staff and students is protected. The intended audience includes Department site managers and staff, and parties external to the Department of Education and Training that are intending to conduct research involving Department of Education and Training site, staff and/or students.
