This publication is the Information Statement of the Department of Education and Training of Western Australia for the year 2009. It provides an overview of the Department so that people may understand the nature of our work and the type of documents that are available. Information in this statement is accurate as at 31 August 2009.

The Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2007-2010 (DAIP), provides the framework within which each Directorate and workplace across the Department of Education and Training will work towards providing safe, caring and welcoming learning environments. The Plan identifies positive actions being taken to ensure people with disabilities are accorded respect, are seen as individuals, are heard and have choices about how and where their needs are met. The culture of our Department is demonstrated in the way in which we address diversity across our wide range of schools and workplaces. The DAIP builds on the positive focus that has been a key feature of our services that have evolved since the implementation of the previous Disability Services Plan. The DAIP represents the next step towards full access and participation of students, staff and community members with disabilities.

The Equity and Diversity Management Plan 2009-2010 demonstrates the Department’s commitment to creating a workforce reflective of the diversity of our students and their communities. It identifies the Department’s equity group employment targets and details strategies to achieve them.
- Reconciliation Action Plan

The Reconciliation Action Plan identifies actions that will be taken by the Department and TAFEWA colleges to build partnerships with Aboriginal Australians and improve education and training outcomes for Aboriginal students. It was developed in consultation with parents, Aboriginal communities and staff from regional, remote and metropolitan locations and is underpinned by the guiding principles of relationships, respect and opportunities.

The Department of Education and Training Strategic Plan 2007-2009 is a statement of the Department’s commitment to providing a world-class education and training system. It provides an integrated strategy in which the Department’s other major planning documents are located, such as the Plan for Public Schools 2008-2011 and TAFEWA Strategic Plan 2006-2010.

The policy has been developed to strengthen the collective capability of the TAFEWA Network to better meet learner and business needs, and to more effectively implement government priorities.
- Women in Leadership Strategy 2009-2010

The Women in Leadership Strategy 2009-2010 is an initiative within the Department’s Equity and Diversity Management Plan 2009-2010 to increase the representation of women at senior levels in the workforce. The strategy specifically targets the development of leadership capabilities for women employees.
