In May 2006, all public, independent and Catholic schools were sent a survey from the Department of Education and Training requesting information about canteen operations and the types and quantities of food and drinks sold. Extensive consultation occurred with health and nutrition experts, education and curriculum experts, canteen managers and staff, members of the food industry, and parents. All staff have a vital role to play in creating a safe and protective school environment through the identification and support of children affected by abuse. This policy assists staff to respond appropriately where there is a concern for a child’s wellbeing or a disclosure of abuse.
