- 2006 Review of the Nutritional Value of Food Sold in School Canteens: Final Report

In May 2006, all public, independent and Catholic schools were sent a survey from the Department of Education and Training requesting information about canteen operations and the types and quantities of food and drinks sold. Extensive consultation occurred with health and nutrition experts, education and curriculum experts, canteen managers and staff, members of the food industry, and parents. The availability and consumption of alcohol on school premises needs to be carefully managed. Schools have a duty to ensure that the supervision of children is appropriate at all times and that the reputation of the school is not damaged by inappropriate behaviour at social occasions.
- Application for Enrolment Form

Parents/ persons responsible who wish to enrol their child in a public school, or community kindergarten, will provide a completed Application for Enrolment Form to the preferred school, or community kindergarten. This is an application for enrolment only - submitting this form to the school does not mean that the enrolment has been accepted by the school. The Application for Enrolment Form is available as an appendix in the Enrolment Policy or can be downloaded as a separate form from this summary section.
- Attendance

The School Education Act 1999 requires compulsory aged students, as defined in the Act, to attend school or participate in an educational program of a school. Principals are responsible for recording and monitoring the attendance of all students and for implementing appropriate strategies to restore attendance if necessary. Update 14.9.09 - changes to section 4.5 (a).

The Department is committed to the creation of safe and supportive school environments through the effective management of student behaviour. This policy focuses on the mandatory procedures for schools to ensure that students develop positive pro-social behaviours and to deal effectively with inappropriate student behaviour. All staff have a vital role to play in creating a safe and protective school environment through the identification and support of children affected by abuse. This policy assists staff to respond appropriately where there is a concern for a child’s wellbeing or a disclosure of abuse. The best interests of the child will be met through an understanding of the processes and requirements for reporting child abuse to agencies who share this responsibility. 11.11.09 version 2.3 published with addition of section 6.18 regarding Working With Children Checks policy.

A Community Kindergarten Registration Advisory Panel is a small group of people appointed to review a decision of the Minister about the registration of a community kindergarten.

The management of community kindergartens is shared between members of the parent community, via the Parent Management Committee, and officers of the Department of Education and Training. Teachers in community kindergartens work closely with the Parent Management Committee.
